While most people are aware of the West Village as a major center of LGBT life, the East Village has played an important role. From the “fairy bars” under the Third Ave El on the Bowery in the 1890’s to iconoclastic Beat writers and artists of the 1950’s and 60’s to the riotous LGBT club scene of the 80’s that continues to this day.
Join urban planner / historic preservationist / cultural historian Laurence Frommer for a walk through the edgier side of LGBT history in NYC!
