GVSHP >> Oral History Collection – East Village

Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation

GVSHP’s Oral History Project preserves and celebrates the rich history of the Village through one of our most valuable resources: our neighbors! Lifelong residents, preservation pioneers, and cherished contributors to the community share their stories with our historians, illuminating the neighborhood’s intricate past with personal, first-hand accounts of Village life from the mid-20th century to today. Begun in the mid-nineties, GVSHP has produced over 40 recordings (and counting) from writers and bandleaders to shop owners and activists, all helping to preserve memories of these colorful streets.
