Lower East Side History Month is celebrated every year in May!

Founded 12 years ago in the hope that a shared celebration of our neighborhood would strengthen our sense of connection and community, celebrations proudly feature Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian American and Pacific Islander, and other community histories of the LES as defined by its historical boundaries which includes the East Village, Chinatown, Two Bridges and Loisaida.
Each year, over 60 LES-based cultural and community groups, small businesses, and residents host a variety of public events, exhibits, tours, and learning opportunities, reminding ourselves of the deep, rich, diverse history of our neighborhood.
